Digital Accessibility

In support of OU’s ongoing initiatives to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act Title II (Title II) regulations, e-LIS has a range of help documents and professional development opportunities, along with the ability to support areas on getting compliant. e-LIS is one of four main areas supporting compliance across all digital platforms:

  • e-LIS provides support for faculty and staff compliance of Moodle and eSpace with resources here on this page, as well as through direct support by contacting the Instructional Design Team at [email protected]. Along with 1-on-1 meetings and course reviews, they can bring the digital accessibility discussion to your department or school in a flexible in-person or online format, from 15-90 minutes.
  • For all other software purchases, the compliance information to be considered is being formulated and will be provided to the university community in the future.
  • UCM provides support for compliance of the OU social media and websites, both public and private (ERN), by working with the area account manager.
  • DSS serves as a resource for the OU community to ensure academic access and inclusion for students with disabilities. DSS provides compliance support for student accessibility through their services and tools, such as assistive technology.

As these regulations will impact all faculty and staff using the e-LIS supported software tools, we recommend you familiarize yourself with the Digital Accessibility resources below, as well as the workshops provided.

ADA Title II Compliance QuickStart eSpace

A great place for all faculty and staff to start is to view our on-demand ADA Title II Compliance QuickStart eSpace. This eSpace provides background information on the Title II requirements, compliance exemptions, contact information for the various departments supporting this initiative, as well as practical help resources for making accessibility updates to your materials. The eSpace starts with a 4-minute Overview Video explaining the three main steps you’ll take to make your space compliant:

  1. Run the Brickfield Accessibility + tool to scan content in Moodle/eSpace
  2. Run the accessibility checkers in your files
  3. Provide captions and transcripts for videos
